“It was God’s will that I go there and it was God’s will that I could perform like I did, especially in the Ice Bowl,” said Mercein who started that life 117 miles south of Lambeau Field in Milwaukee.

The list of “Crawfordisms” compiled for Msgr. Slade Crawford’s funeral is incredibly witty, wisdom-filled and long, just like the God-filled legacy of the man who came up with them. For one of the many friends of the late Msgr. Crawford, who passed away at age 87, one stood out.

Kevin Williams was never a Fortune 500 CEO. He never got famous in 46 years working with Catholic Charities of Philadelphia, except in the minds and hearts of the thousands of seniors and others in the South Philly community to whom he gave his service and heart beyond the call of duty.

About Sorgi Stories

Anthony, Carrie and Jay Sorgi tell stories here. Typically sacred, often subtly. Sometimes song. Sometimes sports. Encountering. Engaging. Embracing all. Empathetic. Encouraging. From a compassion-centered Catholic love. (Enough alliteration?)

Jay, a Milwaukee native, is a longtime veteran news and sports reporter and storyteller for heritage media outlets like KYW Newsradio and WTMJ Radio. He also served national networks and worldwide brands like the Green Bay Packers Radio Network for which he gave 22 years, 18 on-air as a feature reporter and studio anchor.

Now, he tells stories for more than 20 Catholic dioceses from Miami to New York to Oakland, religious orders like the Josephites and Marian Order of the Immaculate Conception, national news outlets such as America Magazine and Our Sunday Visitor, and nonprofits like the St. Vincent de Paul Society, along with his own content platforms. He is also author of Greater Than the Games, a study of Olympic host city bids through the lens of his hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin - a city and region unexpectedly equipped to host the Games. He still dabbles in sports stories, too.

Anthony is a growing sports reporter and commentator for WSJP and covers the Philadelphia Catholic League, one of the top high school sports conferences in America for basketball and football, through the PCL Sports Network which he and fellow Philly-area students co-founded.

Carrie, a proud West Virginia native? Stay tuned.

The Sorgi family now proudly calls the Philadelphia area home while trying to reach all 30 Major League Baseball stadiums for games with their hometown Milwaukee Brewers: 18 down, 12 to go. (Don’t worry. They also love Philly teams.)
